By setting strong requirements to reduce global warming pollution and faster targets to reach 100% renewable energy, California is poised to take important steps to lessen climate change's impacts.

This means embracing clean energy like solar and offshore wind, instead of continuing to rely on fossil fuels or extending the aging nuclear plant. As the fifth largest economy in the world, California has the responsibility to lead the nation and the world to this renewable energy-powered future.

The governor's legislative climate proposals would set bolder, quicker targets for greenhouse gas reductions and for reaching 100% renewable energy. They will also ensure that California achieves carbon neutrality no later than 2045 and establish public health buffer zones to protect communities affected by oil and gas drilling in their neighborhoods. These measures will help protect Californians like me from the dangers of continued fossil fuel use like hotter weather, worsening drought and more intense wildfires.

I urge you to go big on climate to help the state meet our climate goals even sooner and improve the lives of all Californians.
