Shipping from online retailers creates an enormous amount of plastic waste with single-use packaging that we just don't need. Most of the plastic packaging online retailers ship to our homes can't be recycled, so the pile of plastic we're confronted with ends up clogging our landfills, littering our communities and polluting the environment.

It's easy for a bird, fish or turtle to mistake small pieces of plastic for food -- especially when there are millions of pieces of it floating in our waters, forming enormous garbage patches in our oceans. Nothing we use for a few minutes should be allowed to pollute our rivers and oceans for hundreds of years, especially when we don't really need it.

With California leading the country in online shopping, this problem is only going to get worse if we don't act.

Amazon has already committed to stop using single-use plastic in shipments within Germany and India, and now California can lead the way in reducing plastic waste in the U.S.

I urge you to pass AB2026 that cuts out single-use plastic packaging in California to help end the waste crisis.
