Tell Governor Newsom: Commit to 100% clean energy by 2030 during the State of the State

Right now, we are experiencing some of the worst impacts of climate change. Here in California, we also have the potential to influence the country with our state's leadership.

Our 100% renewable electricity goal is a great example of California climate leadership. Since we committed to 100%, seven other states have followed our lead; now, we must set a more ambitious goal by speeding up our transition to renewable energy. If we can do it, others will too.

Your Letter:

Dear Governor Newsom,

The effects of climate change are reverberating across the nation and world; most recently in Texas, with frozen pipes cutting millions from power and running water. Despite the disaster, leaders in Texas are still refusing to act on climate. Here in California, we have the potential to build a more resilient clean energy grid with offshore wind, rooftop solar and storage, and to lead the country with ambitious climate solutions.

Our 100% renewable electricity goal is a great example of California climate leadership. Since we committed to 100% clean energy, seven other states have followed our lead; now, we must set a more ambitious goal and speed up our transition to renewable energy. If California does it, others will too.

Getting to 100% in the next 10 years will reduce emissions, protect Californians who deal with hazardous air quality and dangerous heat year after year, and lead the world in mitigating global warming.

In your upcoming State of the State, I urge you to seize the moment to deliver your address on climate change and accelerate our clean energy commitment.
